Assembly Turns Up Syria Pressure The United Nations General Assembly voted on Friday to condemn its own Security Council for its failure to stop the violent conflict in Syria. The vote comes the day after Kofi Annan, U.N. special envoy to Syria, quit his post, a seeming internal acknowledgment of the failure of his six-point peace plan. Federer Advances to Tennis Finals It took more than four hours, but Roger Federer was able to eke out a win against Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina in their semifinal match on Friday. Federer won the three set match 3-6, 7-6, 19-17. The Swiss tennis star had several opportunities to close it out earlier, serving at 10-9 in the third set, but Del Potro held on to break Federer. Both players appeared nervous, hitting easy volleys into the net and sending shots long at crucial moments. Federer, who has won 17 Grand Slam tourneys but not an individual Olympic gold medal, will next face the winner of the semifinal between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic. Mitt to Reid: 'Put Up or Shut Up' Mitt Romney said that Harry Reid should "put up or shut up" regarding the unsubstantiated accusation that the presidential candidate did not pay taxes for 10 years. During an appearance on Sean Hannity's radio show, Romney called the allegations "untrue, dishonest, and inaccurate." He also said, "I'm looking forward to have Harry reveal his sources and we'll probably find out it's the White House. Look the Obama campaign is going to do everything in its power to try and talk about anything besides the president's record." UK Parents Guilty of Honor Killing A rebellious teenager was killed by her Pakistani parents, a court in England found Friday. Iftikhar and Farzana Ahmed were sentenced to 25 years in prison for the 2003 murder, in which the couple used a plastic bag to suffocate their 17-year-old daughter Shafilea. Authorities got a break in the case when the couple's other daughter gave information on her parents. The girl was only ten years old, prosecutors said, when she began to push back against her parent's rule, causing her mother to abuse her. The investigation was one of hundreds conducted by British law enforcement officials into instances of forced marriage in the country.
