1.How America Screws Its Soldiers

As the 10th anniversary of the Global War on Terror approaches, this Memorial Day in particular has spawned a slew of "support our troops" slogans. But, as The Daily Beast's Andrew J. Bacevich explains, telling the military to do whatever it wants works for everyone—while screwing the soldiers.

2.Al Qaeda Fighters Seize Yemeni City

Not all rebel victories in the Middle East are worth cheering: About 300 gunmen alleged to be loyal to al Qaeda captured the Yemeni coastal city of Zinjibar, capital of the province of Abyan. They captured "everything," according to one resident. Opponents say, however, President Ali Abdullah Saleh gave up the town intentionally to stoke fears of Islamic extremism. Separately, he agreed to a cease-fire with the Hashed tribe; clashes between the groups killed at least 115 people in the capital, Sanaa, this week.

4.Lockheed Martin Fends Off Cyber Attack

Lockheed Martin released more information Saturday on what it called "a significant tenacious" attack on its systems network last week. While no customer, program, or employee data was compromised, the company is still working to employ access to some employees. The attack appears to stem from an earlier data breach at EMC Corporation, which provides electronic "tokens" to Lockheed employees and government officials so they can access networks from home. The U.S. Defense Department is working with Lockheed to investigate the attack.

5.4 Injured In Fiery Delta Landing

A Delta jet caught on fire during a landing at Atlanta's main airport Saturday, injuring four but most of the plane's 50 passengers and crew evacuated safely, authorities said. Atlanta city fire officials said the four people who were injured did not require hospitalization, and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire with foam spray. The Federal Aviation Administration said the fire could have been caused by a blown tire, a locked-up brake or both. A FAA spokesman said the plane had been taken out of commission and would be evaluated by maintenance.
