One hundred and fifty-four years ago, on February 22th, 1857, Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell was born in London. His father was the Reverend H.G. Baden-Powell, a professor at Oxford University, and his mother was the daughter of a British admiral, W.T. Smyth. As a boy Baden-Powell was the centre of interest among his friends. He liked music, acting on a stage and football and was very talented in drawing. He could use both his right and his left hands. At the age of 19 he joined the Army and became a lieutenant.
