Cheat Sheet - Jesus Needs Reza Aslan

Today: Hannah Anderson Found in 'Pretty Good Shape' , Dozens Killed in Iraq Car Bombings , Israel Approves 1,000 Settlement Homes
Cheat Sheet: Morning

ZEALOT

Most scholarly works on Islam are written by Christians or Jews, but Muslims rarely write about Christianity. The Daily Beast's Kirsten Powers talks to the author of Zealot about the double standard.

THANK GOD

Hannah Anderson, 16, was recovered alive and relatively unharmed in Idaho on Saturday while James Lee DiMaggio, the man suspected of kidnapping her, was shot and killed in the dramatic rescue. While law enforcement officials did not release details on how DiMaggio was killed, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said Anderson appeared to be in "pretty good shape." A multi-state manhunt for Anderson began last week when the bodies of her mother and brother were found at DiMaggio's burning home east of San Diego. A man riding horseback encountered Anderson and DiMaggio on Wednesday, but did not notice anything amiss except that they appeared unprepared for the remote. When he returned home, he saw the Amber Alert and notified authorities, who then found DiMaggio's car on Friday and resumed hunting the rugged area until they found DiMaggio and Anderson.

DEADLY

At least 57 people were killed and more than 150 wounded in Baghdad on Saturday in a series of car bomb attacks that appeared to target festivities for Eid, the holiday marking the end of Ramadan. The 12 blasts hit markets, shopping areas, and parks, a deadly end to one of bloodiest Ramadans in years. Also on Saturday, another 10 people were killed and 45 were wounded in a bombing at a busy market in the town of Tuz Khurmato, located about 105 miles from Baghdad. More than 1,000 Iraqis have been killed in July, the deadliest month in the country since 2008. Iraq's Interior Ministry said the country faced "open war" due to sectarian divisions.

TENSE

Israel's foreign minister cleared the way for 1,000 apartments in Jewish settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, just days before peace talks with Palestine were set to resume. Housing Minister Uri Ariel said nearly 800 apartments will be built in east Jerusalem and 400 in several large West Bank settlements. Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas has said he would not resume peace talks unless there is a housing settlement freeze, but he relented under U.S. pressure.

THEY NEED A BAND-AID

Wealthy as they are, the heirs of the Johnson & Johnson company have seen so many misfortunes that one must wonder if there's been a curse, as a new book suggests. The Daily Beast's Emma Garman tells the stories of a family beseeched by early deaths, drug overdoses, sex scandals, and bizarre behaviors.
