1.Callista Gingrich Joins GOP's Worst Wives Club

So Callista Gingrich forced Newt Gingrich's campaign implosion by dragging him on an Aegean cruise? Hardly—she's just joined Marsha Barbour and Cheri Daniels as the latest victim of the GOP's ugly new fad: Blame the wife. The Daily Beast's Matt Latimer is not buying it and says he's ticked off that Gingrich's campaign collapse is suddenly all Callista's fault.

2.Insurgents Disappear When U.S. Tips Off Pakistan

This might pose a problem to the U.S. and Pakistan's new joint counterterrorism plan. The U.S. has given Pakistan the location of insurgent bomb-making factories several times in recent weeks, only to have the insurgents learn their cover had been blown and disappear. The U.S. gave Pakistan the intelligence as part of a trust-building exercise following the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, but now officials are worried the information was either accidentally leaked or deliberately given to the insurgents. The leaks will likely be a primary topic of conversation between Pakistani officials and CIA Director Leon Panetta, who arrived in Pakistan Friday.

3.Gov't: Two Common Chemicals May Cause Cancer

The government has issued warnings that formaldehyde can cause cancer and that styrene might as well. Formaldehyde, the report says, is found in worrisome quantities in plywood, particle board, mortuaries, and hair salons, while high levels of styrene are found in boats, bathtubs, and plastic cups and plates. The government's Report on Carcinogens said consumers should avoid contact with the materials, but that they probably don't pose a serious risk to most people. The workers who make formaldehyde and styrene products, however, are at greater risk. The report was delayed for several years because of intense lobbying from the chemical industry.

4.Emails Show Palin Joked With Bush

The trove of emails from Sarah Palin's time as governor reveals she had a habit of forwarding messages to her staff from people supportive of her vice-presidential bid. On such message came from George W. Bush. "The [president] and I spoke about military, [including] Track's deployment and how Iraq is a different place than it was a year ago," Palin wrote to her chief of staff Mike Mizich, referring to an encounter she had with the then-president in early August. "He also spoke about (and we joked about) VP buzz."

5.AZ Fire Continues to Spread

Though the massive Arizona wildfire was officially 6 percent contained on Friday thanks to calm winds, the blaze has still not been extinguished and winds are expected to pick up again Saturday, potentially pushing the fire across New Mexico state border lines. The stagnant winds Friday allowed firefighters to gain ground, but the concentrated smoke and soot has raised air-pollution levels to "astronomical" heights, with officials concerned about health conditions for both residents and firefighters. So far the fire has torched 30 homes and forced 10,000 people to evacuate their residences. "It's getting very, very close to the New Mexico state line," said a spokesman for the teams of firefighters.
