US school shooting leaves at least 27 dead
At least 27 people, including at least 10 children, have died in a shooting at an elementary school in the United States. It is unclear if there was more than one shooter.

French President Hollande has praised this year's decisions and said the bloc could put the crisis behind itself, following the EU's final 2012 summit. German Chancellor Merkel has spoken more cautiously of success.

A German court has ordered Deutsche Bank to pay damages to the heirs of late German media mogul Leo Kirch, finding the bank guilty of the collapse of the Kirch media empire. The exact sum, however, has not been fixed.
