Does he really deserve this compensation? Fired Rutgers coach Mike Rice is due to receive a $100,000 bonus from the university for the 2012–13 basketball season, a payout he would not be collecting had he been sacked when the administration saw footage of him abusing his players in November. Rice was fired Wednesday after ESPN aired the now viral video of him hurling basketballs and homophobic epithets at his players. But he earned $622,500 in 2012 and, as part of his contract, will receive a bonus for finishing out the season. Since Rice's firing, at least 13 Rutgers faculty members, lawmakers, and activists have called for further investigation of the school's handling of his case.
