Unconfirmed audio from a police scanner indicates officers started the fire at the Big Bear cabin where Richard Dorner holed himself up and likely died. Dorner, a former LAPD officer, stole a car, and then shot two officers, one fatally, in a shootout before barricading himself in the cabin, which then went up in flames. The cause of the cabin fire is unconfirmed, but according to audio believed to be from the police scanner, officers said "seven burners deployed and we have a fire." Police have confirmed charred remains have been found inside the cabin, as well as a driver's license belonging to Dorner, but have not yet confirmed the remains are his. Dorner had held Southern California hostage for six days after killing an engaged couple and a cop and disappearing in Big Bear.
