The Cynical Girl: You Won’t Be Hired Because You Can Do The Job |
You Won’t Be Hired Because You Can Do The Job Posted: 07 Feb 2013 03:45 AM PST Most people won’t be because they can do a specific job. They are hired because of likability, looks, weight, color, gender, family origin, sports team allegiances, height, nepotism, religion, university pedigree, tone of voice, hair, athletic ability, color of eyes or facial symmetry. If people were hired based on competency or ability, we would source and screen candidates differently. The job market would look a lot different. And HR technology would be more agile. I am looking for stories from people like you who were passed over for a job because of some stupid reason — culture, not a good fit, not quite right for the role — even though you are clearly a good fit for the job. What excuse was given? Do you buy it? What’s the real reason you weren’t hired? |
