Helping a sculptor pull off an elaborate prank on hundreds of unsuspecting art-world blowhards taught me one thing: no one pays attention to anyone. By Girls writer Murray Miller.

NOT ENOUGH

We’re not impressed. That’s what members of Egypt’s National Salvation Front, an opposition group, had to say to President Mohamed Morsi’s move to back down on his attempt to grab broad powers for himself. Morsi continues to insist on a referendum on a draft constitution that remains controversial in Egypt. The president’s decision to back down on his decree after widespread protests was “relatively meaningless,” a National Salvation Front spokesman said. Morsi should compromise on a constitution supported by more Egyptians before putting it to a referendum, opposition leaders have said.

CHOICES

It seems Hillary Clinton is about to recommend that the Keystone Pipeline go forward, but, as Bill McKibben writes, her terrible choice on the environment won’t matter compared with President Obama’s dismal record.

VOWS

Three days after picking up their marriage licenses, couples celebrated Washington state’s first same-sex marriages early Sunday morning. Courthouses in some counties opened at midnight to accommodate the happy couples, and judges conducted ceremonies pro bono at Seattle City Hall. In November, Washington, Maryland, and Maine became the first states to pass a law allowing same-sex marriage by popular vote. On Friday the U.S. Supreme Court announced that it would take up the issue of gay marriage in the coming year.

FISTICUFFS

Politics and pugilism met Saturday as Mitt Romney viewed a Las Vegas matchup between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Márquez. “Hello, Manny. I ran for president. I lost,” Romney said in a prefight visit to Pacquaio’s dressing room, according to the brawler’s publicist. Romney was joined by his wife, Ann, for the fight at the MGM Grand hotel arena. A bloodied Márquez secured a victory in the sixth round Saturday, dropping Pacquaio to the mat with a snarling right punch and bringing an end to a four-fight rivalry.
