Rick Perry Endorses Romney What a difference a couple of months makes. When Texas Gov. Rick Perry dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination in January, he threw his support to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Now that Gingrich is preparing to abandon his campaign, Perry has endorsed Mitt Romney for president. “Mitt Romney has earned the Republican presidential nomination through hard work, a strong organization, and a disciplined message of restoring America,” Perry said in a statement Wednesday. Huge Explosion Kills 70 in Syria A massive explosion in the city of Hama left as many as 70 dead Thursday, making the ceasefire in Syria look like even more of a shambles Thursday. Video shows people pulling bodies out of a crater that the BBC says would have been hard to cause using conventional shelling, raising the possibility of a rocket strike. The Syrian government says a terrorist bomb factory exploded. The Arab League called an emergency meeting to discuss the state of the truce. Convicted After months of tension, the Pakistani Supreme Court convicted Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani of contempt of court, but sentenced him only for the several minutes remaining in the hearing. He could have served up to six months in prison. Gilani's opposition is calling on him to resign, but his cabinet says he won't. He could be disqualified from serving as prime minister, but that process could take four months. Gilani was convicted for refusing to ask Swiss authorities to reopen a corruption investigation into President Asif Ali Zardari.
