MUST READS FROM ALL OVER

PEACE TALKS
1. Netanyahu's Bizarre Palestinian Stance

President Obama's parameters for a new round of Mideast peace talks were
designed to head off U.N. recognition of a Palestinian state based
strictly on 1967 borders - which would be catastrophic for Israel.
Benjamin Netanyahu's immediate rejection of the plan suggests he has no
grasp of the real world, writes Peter Beinart.

DISASTERS
2. Tornado Kills Dozens in Missouri

A tornado set down in Joplin, Missouri, on Sunday, killing at least 89
people, officials confirmed on Monday morning. The disastrous storm took
a path that was a mile wide at some points, and emergencies have been
declared on both the state and local level. A local hospital had to be
abandoned due to damage and fire; the triage unit set up across the
street. A Red Cross worker estimated that 75 percent of Joplin has been
destroyed. The tornado was part of a series of storms across the
Midwest; one person also died after a tornado set down in Minneapolis.

3. President Obama Visits Ireland

President Obama set down in Dublin Monday as part of a six-day European
trip that will include a stop in Moneygall, the tiny town where his
great-great-great grandfather was born. In anticipation, the 350 people
who live there have painted their homes and opened a coffee shop called
"Obama's café." He'll also give a speech in the center of Dublin about
U.S.-Irish ties, before moving on to London and France.

BROKEN PROMISES
4. Yemen Prez Refuses to Step Down

After three months of protests, Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh
refused to sign a deal brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council to step
down with immunity in one month. Meanwhile, at least 200 of Saleh's
loyalist supporters armed with AK-47 rifles and daggers trapped several
diplomats inside the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Sana'a - the
location where the deal was to be signed. Trapped inside the embassy
Sunday were U.S. Ambassador Gerald M. Feierstein, British counterpart
Jonathan Wilks, GCC envoy Abdullatif bin Rashid Zayani, and
representatives of the European Union, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and
the United Arab Emirates, who had gathered to witness the signing,
according to witnesses. Early Monday morning, a statement carried by the
Saudi Press Agency said that the gulf council was dropping its efforts
to bring an end to Saleh's 32-year rule "for lack of appropriate
circumstances for agreement."

5. Rapture Prophet 'Bewildered'

Harold Camping, the radio preacher who predicted the rapture would occur
at 5:59 p.m. on May 21, is "mystified" and "a little bit bewildered"
that the event did not take place, according to a board member of
Camping's Family Radio International who has spoken with his wife. The
89-year-old preacher does not plan to issue a statement Monday. The
board member, Tom Evans, said he believes he public is owed an apology.
Robert Fitzpatrick, who spent his life savings on rapture advertising
and was profiled in The Daily Beast, told ABC News, "I can't tell you
what I feel right now. Obviously, I haven't understood it correctly
because we're still here."
