CHEAT SHEET
MUST READS FROM ALL OVER
FALLOUT
1. Greg Mortenson's Lies Hurt Women
Allegations by '60 Minutes' and others that Greg Mortenson, the
humanitarian-star author of 'Three Cups of Tea,' may be a fraud could
spur doubts about his cause - building schools primarily for girls - and
trigger a drop in donations to the global effort, writes The Daily
Beast's Michelle Goldberg. Mortenson is not just a memoirist - he's also
the single most famous champion of the transformative power of education
for girls in poor countries. If his downfall leads to skepticism about
his cause, it would be not just a scandal, but a tragedy.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
2. Jan Brewer Vetoes Birther Bill
After being lumped in with them during the immigration debate, Arizona
Gov. Jan Brewer is finally standing up to her state legislature: On
Monday, she vetoed two controversial pieces of legislation - a bill that
would allow guns on campus and a "birther bill" that would have required
President Obama and other presidential candidates to show extensive
documentation to prove they are U.S. citizens before their names can
appear on the ballot. Brewer called the guns on campus bill "sloppily
written and drafted," noting that it included no provisions for its
enforcement. As for the "birther bill," Brewer's words were harsher,
saying the bill goes "too far." "I never imagined being presented with a
bill that could require candidates for president of the greatest and
most powerful nation on earth to submit their 'early baptismal or
circumcision certificates.'"

3. Syria Facing 'Armed Insurrection'
Demonstrations in Syria show no sign of abating, as government forces
opened fire once again on Tuesday on protesters in Hom, the nation's
third-largest city. "They shot at everything," says one protester, but
the exact number of casualties is unknown. Hundreds of people had
gathered in Hom's Clock Square demanding the resignation of President
Bashar Assad; police attacked them shortly after 2 a.m. local time. On
Monday, Syria's interior ministry said it was facing an "armed
insurrection." 200 people have been killed in the disputes so far.

4. Japan: Meltdown 'Unlikely'
A meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plan is still a possibility.
It is, however, "unlikely," according to Japan's chief cabinet
secretary, Yukio Edano, as long as the current cooling of nuclear
reactors continues. If we can continue this cooling, such a thing is
unlikely,'' Edano said. On Friday, Japan confirmed what many suspected:
partial meltdowns occurred at the No. 1 and No. 3 reactors.

5. Big U.S. Firms Boost Hiring Overseas
U.S. multinational corporations employ one-fifth of the American work
force, but they would apparently prefer to have the work done overseas:
They cut their U.S. employment rosters by 2.9 million in the 2000s,
while boosting overseas employment by 2.4 million jobs. That's a big
turnaround from the 1990s, when they added 4.4 million jobs at home and
2.7 millions jobs overseas. "It's definitely something to worry about,"
says Matthew Slaughter, a former economic adviser to President Bush.
