Magnet attract an iron but not an copper?

A magnet is an object or material that attracts certain metals, and iron is one of the metals strongly influenced by its magnetic force, and copper is not.

Metals that respond strongly to magnetic fields are known as ferromagnetic metals.A few common and well-known metals in this category are iron, cobalt, and nickel. There are other rare metals too in this class, with unusual names like Gadolinium,Holmium,Terbium, and Dysprosium. The atoms in ferromagnetic metal are arranged into little groups domains that just form in that way when the metals are created.

In every materials, atoms have ‘positive’ charges at the centre, called protons, and negative charges that circle around the positive charges, called electrons.Atoms have electrons going around in different directions, they cancel each other out. However, ferromagnetic atoms are special, because the magnetic dipoles line up perfectly with those of their neighbours in the same domain. This phenomenon makes them magnetic!Copper is non ferromagnetic.
