According to Hamas, an attempt by Israel to assassinate the group's military leader, Mohammed Deif, left the man's wife and infant son dead. The violence on Tuesday came after a 10-day break in the conflict, the longest since fighting began on July 8. There has been no official confirmation from Israel of the bombing, although the country has tried to knock off Deif with airstrikes at least four times since the 1990s. The house allegedly hit by Israel had three bodies pulled from the wreckage, which were identified as Deif's wife, his 7-month-old son, and a 20-year-old man.
