Cheat Sheet - Did a Hip-Hop Jihadi Really Kill James Foley?

DEPRAVED STUNTMEN

A British rapper from West London may be the man who put the knife to James Foley's throat in the infamous execution video. Whoever killed Foley likely thinks he's serving a noble cause, writes Christopher Dickey—but it's his ego, not his God, that tells him so. The jihadi "vacationers" and their bloody stunts are almost as ridiculous as they are horrifying.

IN THE CLUB

Ex-Death Row Records mogul Marion "Suge" Knight was one of three people shot early Sunday morning at a pre-VMAs party at West Hollywood's 1OAK. Marlow Stern speaks to eyewitnesses who describe mayhem in the club.

VIDEO STARS

The MTV Video Music Awards had the biggest pop stars on stage, but the crowd went wild for a 2 year old. Blue Ivy, in a gold dress, helped her dad, Jay Z, present the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award to her mom, Beyoncé. In other big moments, Nicki Minaj had a wardrobe malfunction during a performance with Ariane Grande and Jessie J, while Miley Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball" took home the prize for video of the year. Katy Perry got best female video for "Dark Horse," and Ed Sheeran won for "Sing."

DISILLUSIONED

The Free Syrian Army is not impressed with President Obama's new threat to attack ISIS inside Syria, reports Josh Rogin. That's like "tickling" the terror group, the FSA says—and is too little, too late. What the world needs to defeat the thugs, they say, is a plan for on-the-ground combat.

TESTING, TESTING

An unapproved drug to help treat Ebola has been offered up by Japan in an attempt to halt the deadly spread of the virus in western Africa. The medication is called Fabipiravir and was approved for experimental use in Japan in March, though it is waiting approval for testing with the American FDA. "Our country is prepared to provide the yet-to-be approved drug in cooperation with the manufacturer if the WHO requests," the Japanese government announced, saying it has enough for more than 20,000 people. "Even before the WHO reaches a conclusion, we are ready to respond to individual requests [from medical workers] under certain conditions if it is an urgent case."
