Cheat Sheet - ISIS’s Black Flags Are Flying in Europe

SCARY SUPPORT
Supporters of the Islamic State have taken to the streets of Europe chanting "Death to the Jews" and waving the group's signature black flags. No longer confined to Iraq or Syria, the ISIS message is spreading to The Netherlands, reports Nadette De Visser. Youths are intrigued by the anti-Semitic message, but the mayor of The Hague seems unconcerned about his increasingly angry and radicalized population.
FREAK OUT
Now that two U.S. health-care workers in Liberia have been diagnosed with Ebola, it's high time that Americans start paying attention to the virus. Dr. Kent Sepkowitz writes that nearly 700 people have died during what is considered the worst Ebola outbreak ever. "We are going to have to fight it here or else somewhere closer to us," said one leader of a charity fighting the killer.
END IT

The United Nations Security Council has called for an "immediate and unconditional humanitarian ceasefire" in the fighting between Israelis and Palestinians. The plea comes at the start of Eid al-Fitr, the three-day Muslim holiday that ends the holy month of Ramadan. For a few hours early Monday, it was relatively peaceful and quiet in Gaza, after Hamas and Israel each offered brief truces to the three weeks of violence. The U.N. Security Council also called on Israel and Hamas to "accept and fully implement the humanitarian ceasefire into the Eid period and beyond," and to "engage in efforts to achieve a durable and fully respected ceasefire, based on the Egyptian initiative."

TRAGIC
A family of five was found shot to death in their apartment in Saco, Maine, on Sunday. A gun was discovered near one of the bodies, and police are reporting that "no one outside of the family was responsible for the deaths." The parents are believed to have been in their thirties. Of the three children who were also found dead in the apparent murder-suicide, the youngest was just 4 years old. The father was a maintenance worker for the apartment building and was described by neighbors as friendly. "He'd ask how your day was going. He was really nice," said Kristi Harkins, one of the building's residents. Heather Mason, a neighbor who babysat the children, said, "I still don't want to believe it. I love those children like they were my own." Authorities will perform autopsies. The identities of the family members have not yet been released.
SERIOUS CHARGE

The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights said the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 may constitute a war crime. On Monday, Navi Pillay said of the MH17 crash, "This violation of international law, given the prevailing circumstances, may amount to a war crime," though she also noticed the jetliner was likely shot down by mistake. Pillay called for a major investigation into the MH17 crash to determine the details surrounding how the plane was shot down by a surface-to-air missile. Meanwhile, a team of Dutch and Australian investigators were blocked from the crash site over the weekend due to violent clashes in the area.
