MONSTER
Cole Bartiromo's blog Newsball is one man's ego-trip devoted to exposing people he believes to be liars, criminals, or frauds. Brandy Zadrozny reports that since Newsball went live last year, he's used dubious reporting tactics to expose dozens of people—rape victims, underage criminals, and innocents tangentially related to news stories—who would be otherwise left alone.
OPEN SEASON
Deeb Salem became a symbol of ridiculous Wall Street greed this month when he sued Goldman Sachs because he only got a bonus of $8.25 million in 2010. Michael Daly reports that as a result of the lawsuit, now we know how much the bank made betting against their customers.
WORLD CUP

U.S. World Cup Coach Jurgen Klinsmann has your back. He has produced a hand-written letter that American fans can give to their employers in order to skip out from work Thursday to watch the high-stakes game against Germany. "I understand that this absence may reduce the productivity of your workplace, but I can assure you that it is for an important cause," wrote Klinsmann in the "doctor's note." "By the way," he continued, "You should act like a good leader and take the day off as well. Go USA!" If the U.S. ties or beats Germany, it will advance to the second round.

ALL MIXED UP

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has told the BBC that while he did not ask for the Syrian airstrikes carried out in Iraq against Sunni militants, he "welcomed" the attack. Maliki confirmed that it was Syria who hit militant posts in the border town of Qaim on Tuesday. Before rolling through Iraq, ISIS was one of the rebel factions fighting the Syrian government.

AIMING HIGH

The House Ways and Means Committee announced Wednesday that it has evidence that former IRS official Lois Lerner briefly considered referring Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa for a potential audit. Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said in a statement, "The fact that Lois Lerner attempted to initiate an apparently baseless IRS examination against a sitting Republican United States senator is shocking." Lerner received an invitation to a speech intended for Grassley and was concerned that an offer to pay Grassley's wife to attend might raise tax issues that needed to be examined. However, another IRS official quickly dissauded Lerner of this and the matter was apparently dropped.
