KILLER
This week, the Mayo Clinic released a study showing scientists had virtually cured two cases of blood cancer with mega-doses of the measles vaccine. Kent Spekowitz writes about the century-long effort to use similar viruses against cancer.
HIT HARD

Already in jail after pleading not guilty to the murder of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd last year, former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was indicted Thursday for the 2012 killings of two men in Boston. Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado were shot to death while in a car. Just six weeks after he allegedly killed them, Hernandez signed a $40 million contract extension with the Patriots and declared, "I just hope I keep going, doing the right things, making the right decisions so I can have a good life, and be there to live a good life with my family."

LOVE HURTS
In an interview with Anderson Cooper on Wednesday night, Donald Sterling said that he and his wife are divorcing. "The poor girl. I don't know how she can live and deal with this," he said of Shelly Sterling. "Thank God she has wonderful attorneys—wonderful—and they will protect her." Sterling also said that if he is forced to give up his shares in the Los Angeles Clippers, Shelly should be allowed to keep hers. "I mean, she didn't do anything. I brought this all on her," he explained. The couple have been married for more than 50 years. Sterling also continued to defend himself in the interview, declaring, "What am I, a Frankenstein? What am I, some kind of an ogre? I'm a good person. I'm a warm person. I say hello to everybody who comes to the team."
COLD
While the mining tragedy in Turkey has captured the world's sympathy, the country's prime minister is not particularly moved. Thomas Seibert reports that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's curt response of "such things happen" to the deaths of nearly 300 of his citizens has triggered protests throughout Turkey.
HOPEFUL

Text-to-911, which allows users to send a text message to reach 911 emergency dispatch, is launching across the U.S. The nation's four largest carriers (Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon) will now officially route texts addressed to 911 to the police. Before you go ahead and use it however, check with your police department, because your local police may not be implementing it, as it is up to each 911 call center to decide whether and when to being accepting texts. As the Federal Communications Commission notes, you should always try to contact 911 by making a voice call if you can, and only use texting if voice is unsafe or not feasible.

We've never actually been to Elysium, but we imagine it looks just like this. Photographer Terje Sorgjerd's video from the Canary Islands' Mount Teibe is just staggering.
