Cheat Sheet - 'He Was Stabbing Everybody in His Way'

Cheat Sheet: Afternoon

April 09, 2014
SCHOOL NIGHTMARE
At 7:13 this morning, a 16-year-old male student with two knives wreaked havoc on Franklin Regional Senior High School. The mass stabbing outside of Pittsburgh left at least 20 students and one security guard injured, some critically so. "I saw this kid in all black running down the hallway, stabbing," said a female student. "He was just stabbing everybody that was in his way." The school's assistant principal reportedly tackled the suspect, who is now in custody.
FTW?
The GOP lost today's battle over "fair pay for fair work" by blocking the Paycheck Fairness Act, but Keli Goff writes they can still win the war. Even the White House's female employees earn 12 cents less on the dollar less than men, which shows Republicans are right to say closing the wage gap isn't as simple as Democrats make it out to be.
CRYING WOLF?
As he openly sobbed in the witness box, paralympian Oscar Pistorius shared his version of the 2013 murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp that shocked the world. Pistorius detailed how he was "overcome with fear" when he heard a noise coming from the bathroom at the end of the hallway. "My first thought was that I needed to protect myself and Reeva, get my gun," he said. "That was the moment that everything changed."
RESURRECTION
The famously sketchy Vatican Bank looked like it would die when Pope Francis came to power. With money-laundering charges and secret accounts, it looked too corrupt to reform. In keeping with the tradition of forgiveness, Francis wants to give it another chance, reports Barbie Latza Nadeau.
SLAM DUNK

The University of Massachusetts didn't make it out of the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament, but starter Derrick Gordon is making his own landmark move. On Wednesday, the sophomore shooting guard came out to ESPN as the first openly gay player in Division I men's basketball. "I just didn't want to hide anymore, in any way," Gordon told ESPN. "I didn't want to have to lie or sneak. I've been waiting and watching for the last few months, wondering when a Division I player would come out, and finally I just said, 'Why not me?'" He only came out to his coaches, teammates, and family members this month, but Gordon says it has made a huge difference in his life. "Before, I usually just kept to myself because I didn't want to lie or be fake," Gordon said. "I feel so good right now. It's like this huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders."
