Cheat Sheet - Game of Thrones’ Triumphant Return

Cheat Sheet: Morning

April 07, 2014
REJOICE
Spoiler Alert! While it lacked the explosions, decapitations, and massacres of some of the more famous Game of Thrones episodes, Season 4's premiere was a master class in character development, Andrew Romano writes.
FAREWELL

Film legend Mickey Rooney has passed away at age 93, after an 87-year career in cinema. Rooney, born in Brooklyn, was famous for roles in movies like Boys Town, Babes in Arms, National Velvet, and The Black Stallion. He was married eight times, including to Ava Gardner and Barbara Ann Thompson. Rooney, who was born as Joe Yule Jr. on September 23, 1920, made his stage debut at 18 months old on his parents' vaudeville act.

NEVER FORGET
Monday marks the 20th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, when the country's government slaughtered 800,000 people in just 100 days. With those memories still haunting a world that stood by, John Prendergast says there is hope for a more effective international response to future genocides—but only if we recognize the evolution in genocidal tactics.
CHAOS

In Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine on Sunday, pro-Russian protesters took control of government buildings. In response, Ukrainian leaders, including the interior minister Arsen Avakov, accused Moscow and ousted President Viktor Yanukovych of inciting "separatist disorder." "Putin and Yanukovych ordered and paid for the latest wave of separatist disorder in the east of the country. The people who have gathered are not many but they are very aggressive," Avakov wrote on Facebook. He also promised a bloodshed-free response.

TICK TOCK

Jeb Bush said Sunday illegal immigration is "not a felony" but an "act of love." Speaking at a 25th anniversary for his father's presidency, the former Florida governor said this: "I honestly think that that is a different kind of crime. There should be a price paid, but it shouldn't rile people up that people are actually coming to this country to provide for their families." Bush said he will decide by the end of the year whether to run for president.
