It turns out that ABC Family and Fox, once considered the most conservative channels on television, are now the most gay-friendly. Here's how they became out and proud. Read it at The Daily Beast WHEW 2. U.S. Economy Beats Expectations The U.S. economy grew at an annual rate of 2.8 percent in the third quarter, topping analysts' expectations of a two-percent rate. The report was initially due out on October 30, but was delayed because of the shutdown. The growth comes as a surprise as economists were predicting the sequestration spending cuts and tax increases to have a significant drag on the economy.  Read it at the New York Times HEART STOPPER 3. FDA to Ban Trans Fat From the bottom of our artery clogged hearts, thank you. The Food and Drug Administration proposed regulations on Thursday to eliminate artificial trans fat from the U.S. food supply. The measures would deem hydrogenated oils (where trans fats come from) no longer safe. And since the Institute of Medicine says there is no safe level at which to consume artificial trans fats, companies will have a hard time challenging the proposal during the 60-day comment period. The FDA says the rules may prevent 20,000 heart attacks and 7,000 deaths a year. Read it at the New York Times few characters, big bucks 4. Twitter Shares Open At $45.10 The world's public forum is officially public. Twitter debuted on the New York Stock Exchange Thursday morning, with shares opening at $45.10. There are around 544.70 million available, and within the first minute of trading the share volume had already hit 13 million. Twitter's $1.8 billion initial offering makes it the seventh largest IPO in the world this year, and the largest in tech since Facebook last year raised at $16 billion. The best part? Actor Patrick Stewart, a Boston police officer, and a 9-year-old philanthropist made an appearance to ring the bell with the Twitter team. Read it at Reuters HAPPY ANNIVERSARY 5.
