Obama: Congress Vote Will Be Tough Speaking at the G-20 summit in St. Petersburg, President Obama said Friday that he knew getting Congress to authorize an intervention in Syria would be difficult, but wouldn't say whether or not he would act anyway if the legislature said no. "You're not getting a direct answer" Obama said when a reporter pressed him on the question. Obama said he would "make the best case I can" to the American people, and plans to address the nation on Tuesday. He had little to say about his progress with Putin, but the two met privately for about half an hour between meetings. Putin, meanwhile, said Russia would continue to supply arms to Syria. The state-supported Russian media outlet RT also reported that Putin called the chemical weapons attack an elaborate ruse by the Syrian rebels to provoke an intervention. San Antonio Bans LGBT Discrimination As of this week, it is not legal to discriminate against someone based on their sexual orientation or gender identity in San Antonio. The city council voted Thursday to add those protections to its non-discrimination ordinance, joining the likes of Houston, Dallas, Austin and other Texas cities that have done the same. "This ordinance fundamentally is about ensuring whether white or black, Christian or Jew, whether straight or gay, San Antonio belongs to you," said Mayor Julian Castro of the decision that was debated by more than 2,000 citizens, both opponents and supporters, and was backed by many facets of the local government as well as businesses like the San Antonio Spurs. G20 Ends Without Syrian Agreement Despite their seemingly cozy body language, world leaders left the G20 summit in Russia without agreeing on military action against Syria. Speaking in St. Petersburg, President Obama resigned to restating his concern over last month's nerve gas attack in Damascus, stressing a "unanimous" conclusion that chemical weapons had indeed been used. But Obama stands largely alone on the world stage in his call for military intervention; Russian President Vladimir Putin said most countries opposed a strike in Syria, including Brazil, Germany, China, and other smaller countries like Indonesia.
