Two British women were walking the historic city center in Zanzibar, Tanzania, when they were splashed with acid by two men on a motorbike. The women, who were volunteer teachers on the East African Island, were treated at a local medical center before the British consulate was able to get them to a hospital in mainland Tanzania. In a statement, the Zanzibar government called the attack "a great tragedy" and offered a reward, the equivalent of about $6,000, to anyone with information that could assist in arresting the offenders.
