Expectations were high that Netflix shows might make the first appearance on the Emmy Awards nominee list this year, and they certainy, did: the site's political drama House of Cards was nominated for best drama, joining Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, Homeland, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad. The show's stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright picked up nominations for lead acting, as did Jason Bateman for the revival of Arrested Development, another Netflix original. But it was the FX miniseries American Horror Story: Asylum that really cleaned up, taking home 17 nominations. Lots of usual suspects showed up in the Best Comedy category, including Louie, Modern Family, 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Girls, and Veep.
