Remember Let's Move? The First Lady's main cause, nutrition, has been quietly undermined by the very companies that once were its biggest champions, according to lobbying records and other records analyzed by the Los Angeles Times on Sunday. "The White House got cold feet," said Sen. Tom Harkin, who had once championed Michelle Obama's nutritional guidelines. "It sort of undermines everything the First Lady was doing." When Obama first launched Let's Move in March 2010, she zeroed in on advertising for fatty foods and sugary drinks that were geared toward children, but top food and media corporations launched a fierce opposition battle against advertising guidelines—and by December 2011, any guidelines to the industry were effectively killed.
