Will the Taliban claim responsibility? Gunmen in Pakistan kidnapped the son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani during an election rally Thursday in the city of Multan—the family's power base. Ali Haider Gilani was campaigning for a provincial legislative seat in Saturday's national election when he was abducted by gunmen who opened fire, fatally shooting his secretary. While the motive of the kidnapping is unclear, suspicions have turned to Taliban militants who have threatened political candidates, especially those running in liberal and secular parties, and have previously disturbed political rallies with suicide and remote-controlled bombings. Gilani's kidnapping comes two days after a leading candidate in the election was hospitalized after falling during a campaign race.
