No visit from Dennis Rodman could solve the problems between North and South Korea. South Korea, normally desensitized to the harsh rhetoric from the North, has a heightened sense of anxiety after the recent belligerent tone and action from North Korea—causing some South Koreans to call for the development of their own nuclear weapons. "The third nuclear test was for South Korea what the Cuban missile crisis was for the U.S.," said Han Yong-sup, a professor of security policy at the Korea National Defense University in Seoul. In a recent poll, two thirds of South Koreans advocated for the country's developing its own nuclear arsenal. The new South Korean president, Park Geun-hye, is the daughter of a military strongman who made a name for himself by standing tough against North Korea—and Park's very election reflects the changing attitudes of the country.
