The Daily Beast's Jace Lacob gets the scoop. Read it at The Daily Beast n about it.” BENGHAZI In emotional and explosive testimony, Clinton said we have evidence on Benghazi suspect Ali al-Harzi, but that Republicans need to back off on the question of misleading intel. The Daily Beast’s Eli Lake reports. SMACKDOWN It seems not everyone was satisfied with Hillary Clinton’s testimony this morning. During the congressional hearing, Tea Party favorite Rand Paul criticized Clinton for a “failure of leadership” over the attack in Benghazi, Libya, and called it the “greatest tragedy since 9/11.” He added, “Had I been president, I would have relieved Secretary Clinton of her duties.” Shortly after the hearing, Paul sent out a video clip of the exchange to his supporters. Paul has previously said he is “interested” in running for president in 2016. DEAL The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a three-month extension to the debt ceiling, hours after Senate Democrats announced that they will accept the House GOP’s plan to raise the debt ceiling. House Speaker John Boehner and his team have managed to get members to support a plan that would lift the debt ceiling until May 19 in exchange for demands that the Senate and House regularly approve the budget. The new plan drops the previous demand that every dollar in increased borrowing authority be met with a corresponding spending cut. Over in the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid promised “regular order” to bring a budget to the Senate floor—for first time since 2009. FAIR ENOUGH Looks like Washington is still licking their fiscal cliff wounds. President Obama announced Tuesday that he "will not oppose" the House Republicans new proposal to suspend enforcement of the federal debt limit until May 19. The measure—which will be brought to the House for a vote Wednesday—would give the Republicans "breathing room" in order to avoid another debt limit confrontation with Obama. Under the proposal, the government's legal borrowing limit of $16.4 trillion would remain the same until May 18. If successful, the approach will be the first of its kind to succeed since WWII. | |
