Egypt's top court halts work due to pro-Morsi protests
Egypt's top court has delayed its work indefinitely after supporters of President Mohammed Morsi protested outside its headquarters. The court was to hear a case on the legality of Egypt's Islamist-controlled parliament.
Syria
Car bomb and army offensive cause Syrian death toll to rise
A car bomb in Syria's western city of Homs has killed 15 people and wounded dozens more. Meanwhile, the Syrian army hammered rebel positions around Damascus in a strategic assault aimed at securing the capital.
Elections
Shiite Muslims gain seats in boycotted Kuwait election
Kuwait's minority Shiite Muslims have gained one-third of the parliament in early polls boycotted by majority Sunni candidates. The opposition has vowed to continue protests until the new parliament is abolished.
Defense
Saudi Arabia keen to buy German armored vehicles
Saudi Arabia has officially asked about purchasing several hundred Germany armored fighting vehicles, the magazine Spiegel reports. The inquiry was discussed at a secret meeting of the German Federal Security Council.

Pahor completes come-from-behind campaign in Slovenia
Borut Pahor has won the Slovenian presidential election run-off vote, state television reported. The former prime minister had been expected to defeat the incumbent, Danilo Türk.
Afghanistan
Taliban attack NATO air base
Taliban insurgents have struck at airport used by NATO using heavy weaponry against the heavily defended compound. Police said three guards at the base had been killed.
Politics
Kenyan political dream team has a date with The Hague
Two politicians accused of atrocities by The Hague have announced they will run for office together in Kenya. NGOs fear a repeat of the carnage that followed the disputed vote in 2007, where more than 1,000 people died.
