Lebanese security chief Wissam al-Hassan died along with two others in a car bombing Friday that has been blamed on Assad's regime. Fears in Lebanon have spread that the violence that has plagued Syria for 18 months could spill over into the neighboring country, and police presence was high in Beirut on Sunday as officials prepared for al-Hassan's funeral. Blast Kills 10 in Damascus Ten people died in a bomb blast in Damascus while international peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday, state media reported. The bombers seem to have targeted a police station in the Syrian capital. Bloodshed continued in the embattled country while Brahimi, who represents the United Nations and Arab League in Syria, met with the country's foreign ministers and opposition leaders before talking Sunday with Assad. Thirty thousand people are thought to have been killed in fighting over the last year and a half, and Brahimi has called for a ceasefire over the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha. In a new poll conducted after the second presidential debate, President Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney are locked in a dead-even sprint toward Election Day. The nominees are tied at 47 percent each among likely voters in the Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll. Obama leads 49 percent to 44 percent among registered voters. The margin of error in the poll for registered voters is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. For likely voters, it is 3.43 percentage points.
