August 9th, 2012Top StoryPole Vaulter Realizes It's Not His Day As His Pole Shatters Mid-VaultBy Barry Petchesky Cuba Lazaro Borges finished second in the world at last year's championships. But when he cleared 5.90 in South Korea, presumably he did it with a pole that didn't snap into three pieces underneath him. Borges had a rough go in the semifinals in London this morning, his pole disintegrating on his upward vault. He was lucky enough to land on the mat, shaken but unhurt, though he missed out on advancing to the finals because he took too many attempts. We hope they didn't count this one against him.
