The Daily Beast’s Aram Roston reviews the tapes, plus a new trove of bank statements—and reports on a series of money transfers that one money-laundering expert says has “given the prosecutors, on a silver platter, evidence of guilty intent.” TROOPS Russia has deployed two Navy vessels to Syria, according to reports. The ships have been sent to reinforce the country’s naval base in Syria, as well as to protect Russian citizens and interests in the conflicted region. A Russian Navy official told the Interfax news service that the two vessels would be heading to the naval base at Tartus, a Syrian port, and would be carrying additional troops. Russia’s Defense Ministry has not commented on the troop movements, but the country has stood by Syria as violence has spiraled out of control in the country. Fourteen thousand people have died since a popular uprising began against iron-fisted dictator Bashar al-Assad’s rule began more than 15 months ago, according to opposition groups. PENN STATE What more could be said? The prosecution rested its case Monday in the sex-abuse trial of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, with the judge saying that he will not move to dismiss the charges. Judge John Cleland said that he harbored doubts about the state’s case Monday, but said that he believes there is enough credible evidence against Sandusky for the case to go before a jury. The 68-year-old Nittany Lions legend is charged with 52 counts of sexual abuse against 10 boys over a 15-year period. Sandusky denies all charges. One teen, known as Victim 9, testified Thursday that Sandusky repeatedly forced him to have anal sex that resulted in bleeding. The teen testified that he “just dealt with it.” Exclusive Former Republican Party chairman Michael Steele and onetime Clinton administration strategist Lanny Davis are challenging their parties to stop the politics of demonization. American Dream President Obama received the backing of one of Hispanic media’s most prominent figures, Cristina Saralegui. The Miami-based talk-show host, often referred to as “the Hispanic Oprah,” has never made a public endorsement in a presidential race, but she decided that since Hispanics “may very well decide the next election,” she had an obligation to say something. “I will do everything I can from now until November to ensure that President Obama is reelected; there's simply too much at stake,” Saralegui said in a statement. “President Obama, I was very fortunate to live the American Dream, and I know that only you will make it possible for millions more to do the same.
