Nearly 33 years to the day after the disappearance of Etan Patz, detectives are reevaluating a suspect who had copped to the crime just days later, The Daily Beast’s Michael Daly reports.

FALLOUT

The fallout over Facebook’s IPO just keeps getting worse. Fidelity Investments, a large Boston-based mutual-fund company, is reportedly working with “thousands” of brokerage clients who have been affected by trading problems stemming from a NASDAQ glitch that delayed the stock’s early trading by 30 minutes. Fidelity issued a notice to clients who have expressed confusion over whether or not they owned stock in the social-media company, saying they may have experienced delays after sending orders to buy shares Friday. The  fund company reassured clients that “any shares of Facebook stock currently credited to their accounts are owned by them and available for trading.” Fidelity was not immediately available for comment regarding customer complaints.

CORRUPTION

News Corp. lobbyist Frédéric Michel appeared before the Leveson Inquiry into the ethics of the British press on Thursday to answer allegations that he communicated with an adviser to the British culture minister, who was overseeing News Corp.’s $12 billion bid to take over the cable company BSkyB. Michel admitted to exchanging phone calls, texts, and email messages with Adam Smith, the government aide, though he denied knowledge that Smith was feeding his communications to the culture minister. Smith resigned last month after a trove of emails revealed the close relationship and making a damning case that he had communicated with Murdochs lobbyist.

TRYOUTS

Will they be forced to sing the “The Star-Spangled Banner?” The Associated Press has observed that Republicans who support Mitt Romney have been publicly speaking on behalf of his campaign, essentially “auditioning” for the role of vice president without acknowledging that they’re doing so. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan have all made high-profile appearances in the month since Romney earned the Republican nomination, and all have targeted Obama in their speeches—a strategy they will his attack dog will need to perfect. Romney’s top aides are reportedly in the process of vetting potential running mates, performing both political and personal background checks, but both the aides and candidates are sworn to secrecy, according to Republicans with knowledge of the VP selection process.

INTERVIEW

The first man to step on the moon is famously private and has rarely spoken about his world-shaking moonwalk—until now. Neil Armstrong gave a rare interview to an accountants’ group in Australia, saying he believed his moon mission only had a 50 percent chance of landing safely. Armstrong added that NASA’s reduced budget and ambitions are “sad” because it was one of the most successful programs in history and inspired young adventurers.
