With the regular season now complete, let's look at attendance in Major League Baseball and how it changed from a year ago. Interestingly, it appears that the big market teams were hit the hardest. All six of the teams in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles were among the 12 teams that had a drop in attendance this season.
The Cleveland Indians (30.3%) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (21.8%) recorded the biggest jumps in attendance. Meanwhile, six of the 12 teams with a decrease in ticket sales had winning record, while only one of the four teams with the biggest increases posted a winning record. And Of the eight playoff teams, only five of the teams showed a increase in attendance this season, with the Rays, Yankees, and Cardinals showing a dropoff.
