The Supreme Court squashed a class-action suit against Walmart on Monday, preventing a coalition of up to 1.6 million current and former female employees from filing discrimination charges together. The case, which the high court said was too large, had argued that female workers at the chain were paid less and granted fewer promotions than their male counterparts, and that Walmart's corporate structure fostered gender discrimination. The ruling is seen as a victory for the business community and could have set a major new precedent in workers' right cases.
