BP Oil Spill Close To Florida: Oil Sheen Spotted Nine Miles From Pensacola Beach

This is truly sad - our hearts go out to the folks all along the beautiful beaches from Gulf Shores to Pensacola and on to Sandestin and Panama City. If oil does indeed come ashore along these pristine white beaches, the photo ops will be horrific. While we in Louisiana are impacted by oil in our marshes, once the public sees those beautiful beaches soiled, unfortunately for Florida but fortunate for us as a whole in a sad way, the reaction and outcry will be 10 times greater than it is now. We will truly have a national emergency and hopefully, we'll find a governmental response equal to it.

As a Louisiana resident, the oily pelican really resonates with all of us here. I'd hope that maybe people would start wearing pelican-related items as a sort of show of support for the whole Gulf Coast - the people and the wildlife affected (kinda this disaster's version of the yellow ribbon or flag pin). Anyone starting something like this?

There are tens of thousands of people in Louisiana - and hundreds of thousands along the entire Gulf Coast - who would like their lives, their livelihoods, and fresh air and water. And need I mention that there are millions and millions of fish, birds, and mammals of all sort who would like their ocean and marshes back.


One must ask, does BP have any - ANY - crisis management or PR folks who have a clue as to how to deal with the American public and our intense 24/7 instant media coverage of an unparalleled disaster that we find ourselves in thanks to their decisions to do deepwater drilling on the cheap?


Many lessons will be learned, but many more lives will be lost - shame on a CEO and a company who projects this image while people are suffering because of your boneheaded decisions!
