Cheat Sheet - Inside the Battle to Crush Ukraine’s Rebel Capital

Read This, Skip That ....

July 21, 2014
UNDER FIRE
Fighting raged in the center of Donetsk on Monday as Dutch investigators examined the MH17 crash site nearby. Anna Nemtsova reports from the capital of eastern Ukraine, where Ukraine's military is shelling the town to topple the rebels' last major redoubt.
SKEEVY

Johns Hopkins Hospital will pay a record $190 million to settle a creepy class-action suit against gynecologist Nikita Levy. Levy was discovered to have secretly videotaped his female patients, performed several unnecessary pelvic exams, and "engag[ed] in inappropriate physical contact." Police found more than 1,200 video clips after being alerted by a female staff member, who noticed that Levy wore a pen camera around his neck. More than 12,500 potential victims have been identified. Levy was fired by the hospital on Feb. 8, 2013; he was found dead 10 days later, after he'd wrapped a plastic bag around his head and pumped it with helium. Levy had worked in the Johns Hopkins Community Medicine system since 1988.

RAINBOW VOTES
The Democrats' next (likely) presidential nominee would leave same-sex marriage up to the states. Though many activists—and a growing number of Americans—view it as a constitutional right. David Freedlander asks: Can she keep everyone on board for 2016?
RESURRECTED
He's a ghost from the nightmare world of Saddam Hussein. Izzat Ibrahim al Douri was for decades one of the Iraqi tyrant's bloody right-hand men and a liaison with radical jihadists the world over. Jacob Siegel and Christopher Dickey report that despite a $10 million reward for his capture, al Douri, 72, is in cahoots with ISIS.
REAL TALK

In his strongest statement yet on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, President Obama blasted pro-Russian rebels for stealing bodies and collecting evidence as amounting to a coverup of their alleged downing of the plane. "What is it they're trying to hide?" Obama said. The president urged Vladimir Putin to compel the separatists to stop hampering the investigation. If Putin continues to back the rebels, "the costs for Russia's behavior will only continue to increase," he said. "The world deserves to know exactly what happened, and the people of Ukraine deserve to determine their own future."
