PRETTY PLEASE
Just two and a half years ago, Iraq's prime minister was celebrating as the last American soldiers left Iraq. Eli Lake reports that now, as an al Qaeda offshoot takes control of the second-largest city in Iraq, Prime Minister Maliki wants America back to fight the insurgents.
SWEET REVENGE
Former Democratic Rep. Ben Jones, better known as Cooter from Dukes of Hazzard, is claiming he's the reason for Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor's downfall. Jones, who once lost to Cantor, wrote an open letter calling on all voters, including Democrats, to turn out against Cantor. The letter went viral, reports Eleanor Clift, and a surge of new voters who were not Republicans were partly to blame for Cantor's defeat.
HUH?

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday at the Commonwealth Club of California, Texas Gov. Rick Perry defended the GOP's decision to put support for conversion therapy for gays in the state party platform. In doing so, he likened homosexuality to the problem of alcoholism. "I may have the genetic coding that I'm inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that, and I look at the homosexual issue the same way," he said. The state's platform has come under widespread criticism both for its stance on conversion therapy as a solution for homosexuality, and for its hardline stance on immigration.

ENEMY CAMPS

The number of Americans who are consistently conservative or consistently liberal has doubled over the past 20 years, Pew Research reported Thursday. Twenty-one percent are now consistent liberals or conservatives, up from 10 percent in 1994. In addition, those partisan sentiments are stronger amongst those who profess them. Also, the number of people in each party who view the opposing party in a negative light has more than doubled since 1994. They believe the other guy's policies "are so misguided that they threaten the nation's well-being." Good luck governing.

DAILY OCCURRENCE

At a Catholic church in Phoenix on Wednesday night, one priest was shot and killed while another was wounded. Police found the two priests when responding to a burglary call at the church. The wounded priest is in critical condition. Police have found the car they believe was involved in the attack, however the suspects are still at large.
