The collapse of the western Antarctic ice sheet is "unstoppable" and will result in an "inevitable" sea level rise of as much as 13 feet, according to a new study published Monday. Researchers at the University of Washington found that the complete melting of the largest remaining grounded repositories of ice in the world will take a little as 200 years or as much as 1,000 years. Either way, it will virtually destroy places like New Jersey and Florida. A separate NASA study set to be published Monday confirmed the same inexorable end of the western Antarctic ice sheet.
