Cheat Sheet - The First Modern School Shooter Speaks

Read This, Skip That ....

THE PROTOTYPE
"With every school shooting, I feel I'm partially responsible," Brenda Ann Spencer told her parole board some 35 years after she killed two and wounded eight in a California schoolyard. Michael Daly reports on the woman who is in prison only a few miles from where Elliot Rodger went on a shooting spree last weekend.
MAN ON A MISSION
Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki has resigned. As usual, writes Michael Tomasky, President Obama took too long to act. What matters most now is what comes next. Meanwhile, let's judge Shinseki on his entire record of service, like standing up to Bush and Rumsfeld, not just this.
WATCH OUT

In her new memoir coming out in June, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is striking back at the Benghazi frenzy that has gripped the right. "Those who exploit this tragedy over and over as a political tool minimize the sacrifice of those who served our country," she writes. Clinton devotes 34 pages to the issue, saying she takes responsibility for it, but that in the aftermath there has been a "regrettable amount of misinformation, speculation, and flat-out deceit by some in politics and the media." Clinton hopes she can put the issue to bed (good luck): "I will not be a part of a political slugfest on the backs of dead Americans. It's just plain wrong, and it's unworthy of our great country. Those who insist on politicizing the tragedy will have to do so without me."

MOO
The group that brought you animal-fur horror stories has just launched a campaign claiming cow's milk causes autism. Hold on to your Cheerios, Kent Sepkowitz explains the animal rights group's eccentric theory.
REVOLUTION

The revolution in LGBT rights continues. The Department of Health and Human Services ruled Friday to end a ban on Medicare covering sex-reassignment surgery. The ban was instituted in 1981 for fear of "serious complications" resulting from "experimental" surgery, but the procedures are now considered to be safe. This does not mean Medicare will start paying for sex changes, but it does mean Medicare will no longer be prevented from doing so when claims are made. No word on Medicaid though.
