COMEBACK

The Mouse House is back! Frozen, which hits theaters Wednesday, is the best Disney film since The Lion King, and a powerful reminder of how astonishing the company's magic can really be. This is also, as it happens, the third consecutive year that the stuio's big animated release is better than Pixar's. The Daily Beast's Kevin Fallon on how Disney got its groove back.

LOCKDOWN

Yale University is on lockdown after confirmed sightings of a gunman on campus. Police said no shots have been fired, but they are searching the campus for the gunman. According to an alert sent to local police, an emergency call came in from an anonymous man who said his roommate said he was on his way to Yale with the intention of shooting. The sighting was confirmed on the 300 block of Columbus Avenue, according to the alert sent to students. Anyone with information is urged to call 911 immediately.

AMERICA'S SWEETHEART

Welcome to Internet news, Katie. Don't let us scare you. Katie Couric will join Yahoo News next year as a "global anchor," Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer confirmed on Monday. Mayer called Couric "the face of Yahoo News" and said she would "lead a growing team of correspondents for Yahoo News who will cover the world's most interesting stories and newsmakers." It's a huge step for Couric, who has made her entire career on broadcast television. Sources close to the deal said Couric will be paid millions, and she will continue to do her syndicated talk show Katie, but will no longer be an ABC News special correspondent.

SPY GAMES

Promises, promises. Six months after the White House said it would push to move the CIA's controversial drone operations to the Defense Department, the Washington Post reports that the CIA is still running majority of the operations, and according to officials, "the White House vision remains a distant goal." The news comes after high-profile strikes in Yemen and Pakistan last week, and highlights the difficulties in getting the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command to take over from the CIA.

ANGEL FACE

It's the final countdown—again—for Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito as closing arguments begin in their new appeal against their 2009 convictions for the murder of British student Meredith Kercher, who was found stabbed to death in her locked bedroom during a study-abroad term in Italy. Prosecutors claim the pair is guilty beyond a doubt. The Daily Beast's Barbie Latza Nadeau reports from the courtroom.
