The Israeli military successfully bombed a "terror site" in southern Lebanon on Friday in retaliation for four rockets that were launched from its northern neighbor on Thursday constituting "a blatant breach of Israeli sovereignty that jeopardized Israeli civilian life." The target, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine General Command, was surprised by the attack, as a different organization, the Lebanese branch of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, a terrorist group affiliated with al Qaeda, had already claimed responsibility for the rockets. This was Israel's first air attack on Lebanon since its war with Hezbollah in 2006, a 34-day war in which the Islamist group fired as many as 4,000 rockets into Israel.
