Egyptians opposed to the constitution put forward by President Mohammed Morsi are protesting in Cairo. The demonstrations come a day after Egypt's top prosecutor felt compelled to resign.

Russia 'to evacuate its citizens in Syria'
Russian has sent warships to Syria, a move that could indicate the Syrian regime feels increasingly threatened by rebels. Meanwhile, two Russians in the country have been kidnapped and a top US journalist has been freed.

South Africa's ruling ANC party has re-elected President Jacob Zuma as its leader and chose businessman Cyril Ramaphosa as his deputy. The head of the ANC will likely be the next president of South Africa.

Polio workers killed in Pakistan
Six healthworkers who were part of a polio immunization drive have been shot dead inside 24 hours in Pakistan. The murders in Karachi and Peshawar have prompted authorities to suspend the polio campaign there.
Immigration
Germany growing increasingly diverse
One out of every eight residents of Germany is foreign-born, said the National Statistics Office (Destatis) on International Migrants Day. After a slight decline, immigration is again on the rise in the country.
Afghanistan
German President Gauck meets with Afghanistan's Karzai
President Gauck has met with Afghan President Karzai for talks on civil and development cooperation in Kabul. Gauck has assured Afghans of Germany's ongoing support after the withdrawal of foreign troops in 2014.
European Union
Brussels donates Nobel money to children's projects
The European Union has announced it will donate its Nobel Peace Prize money to projects that help child refugees. The award will benefit some 23,000 children across three continents.

US judge rejects Apple bid to ban Samsung gadgets
Apple has failed to convince a US court that Samsung smartphones must be banned from the US market due to patent infringement. The judge has found the technology at issue doesn't drive people's buying decision.
