Inside Intel's 3D TriGate Transistor Breakthrough
Intel's newly unveiled 3D Tri-Gate transistors enable chips to operate at lower voltage with lower leakage, providing a combination of improved performance and energy efficiency never before seen in the chip industry, Intel officials said. These new transistors will reside on Intel's soon-to-come 22nm Ivy Bridge processors, due out late this year. We take a look at how the Tri-Gates work.

Security, Compliance Are Critical Concerns of IT Pros
While regulatory compliance, IT governance, information security and disaster recovery remained the top four concerns for IT professionals, there were other areas that were adding complexity and increasing risk, according to a recent report by ISACA, a global association of more than 95,000 IT professionals. IT departments are also worried about data breaches, cloud computing and the rise in number of consumer devices in the enterprise.

STMicroelectronics has announced a new member of its dual-core Cortex-A9 SPEAr1300 SoC (system on chip) line that adds a 2D/3D-accelerating ARM Mali 200 GPU (graphics processing unit). The SPEAr1340 also includes a hardware video accelerator, supporting up to 1080p at 30fps, and it can handle multiple concurrent video flows for surveillance applications, says the company.
