Nuke the Oil Spill?

BP LogoImage via Wikipedia

Maybe BP should think of letting the U.S. military use the "ultimate solution" for destroying the oil well - interesting expert analysis here on why nuking the oil well might be the best way to end the oil spill debacle!

Not!: BP chief exec disputes oil plumes claims

Really, BP??? All I can say is we spent the night last night in Daphne, Alabama (Mobile Bay) coming home from the beach, and the hotel is full of BP workers and federal workers from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. If they don't think the oil is coming here, then why is there a huge conference room full of maps, animal nets and carrying cages, and enough Gatorade to sustain them for weeks. Think this says far more than any BP exec's denials.

Ed Markey: BP 'Lying Or Incompetent' About Scope Of Gulf Oil Spill

I believe the correct answer is "c," as BP execs have to be considered all of the above - incompetent and lying. Unbelievable - the height of corporate irresponsibility!

Gulf Oil Spill: Media Access 'Slowly Being Strangled Off'

BP LogoImage via Wikipedia

This is why freedom of the press is the most important right we possess in America. It is indeed up to all of us to see - and demand - that this be upheld. Without the truth, we are really at the mercy of the powerful. Let's make sure we have full media coverage of the impact of the oil spill and BP's actions - today and into the future - as this tragedy unfolds.

BP Says So Far, Gulf Well Plug Isn't Working

Film poster "Plan 9 from Outer Space"Image via Wikipedia

Unfortunately, we're not surprised here in Louisiana. BP engineers seem to be a not-so-funny oxymoron. Plan B - they only have two plans??? Time for the military to take charge - after their "dog and pony" on Friday to stage a "massive" clean-up effort to impress President Obama, it's obvious that BP is more interested in PR than clean-up (even though they are not doing an even poor job of either at this point!).

Our thoughts go out to David Huff, his family and his teammates - that was a scary image! With a son who pitches, you always fear a moment like this (of course, the kids hitting off him at 11 aren't pumped-up like A-Rod!).

BP Oil Spill Protest At Gas Station In New York City (VIDEO)

Image representing Huffington Post as depicted...Image via CrunchBase

We'll see more of this - but it's right now an unfocused anger - a foreign company (BP), an offshore calamity - however, I do feel like James Carville that we will see some real, sustained movement on this - at least all of us in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast certainly hope so!

The Fake BP Oil Spill Response: 'Army Of Temp Workers' Bused To Grand Isle For Obama Appearance Leave Soon Afterward

Hard to believe - spin can be useful, but this is ridiculous. We want transparency, not BP being transparent in its PR. This is perhaps the most shameful behavior on the part of any corporation we've seen - period!

Obama Oil Spill Response: President Visits Gulf Coast Beach

Apocalypse NowImage by valleygirl_tka via Flickr

A photo op never saved a fish, cleaned a bird, or protected the marsh. Go to the worst-hit areas and see the truth of how bad this is! And then, meet with the scientists who see what's lurking underneath and off-shore. This will not be solved in a week, a month, or maybe even years, and people - and entire communities - will suffer greatly because of BP's ineptitude and greed!

22-Mile Oil Plume Under Gulf Nears Rich Waters

Destin, FloridaImage via Wikipedia

Read the Article at HuffingtonPost

We're in uncharted waters here folks - we don't routinely see an entire ecosystem and food chain destroyed on this magnitude. BP can't pay enough to repair this. They've went beyond the "Pottery Barn" rule. When you break an item, you pay for it. But what happens when by breaking that one item, you destroy the whole store, the whole mall, and maybe even the whole town where the Pottery Barn was. Time for a new level of corporate responsibility. If there truly were any justice (and let me say, I know this won't happen), BP should become the first company ever confiscated by the government and given to shrimpers and operators of hotels and restaurants along the Gulf.

In closing, all I can say is that spending Memorial Day weekend here in Destin, Florida with my family - and there is a deep foreboding here that what we have seen in coastal Louisiana is headed here and all along the Gulf Coast.

Gulf Oil Spill: James Carville To Obama - Tell BP 'I'm Your Daddy' And Take The Lead In Response

James Carville speaks at Adelphi University (w...Image via Wikipedia

We in Louisiana very much appreciate having national-stage advocates such as James Carville and Mary Matalin now living in New Orleans and truly making it their home. They can get a camera and a world-wide cable news audience at any time, and hopefully, what they are reporting first-hand will make a difference. Yes, we were just coming back from Katrina, and now this - and the oil spill promises to be a years and perhaps decades-long recovery that is going to wipe the coastal areas out ecologically and economically - great job - keep talking!
