For the first time in almost two decades, no person of color received an acting nomination for the Academy Awards, writes Kevin Fallon. The Academy couldn't find just one worthy black actor in a year when a Martin Luther King biopic, Selma, is released?
Belgian media reports at least two people have been killed in a counterterrorism raid in Verviers on Thursday. Judiciary officials confirmed only that an operation took place near the center of the town. RTBF-TV reports there are no casualties among security forces, but that two unidentified people were killed, a third injured, and several others arrested. An official told AFP the raid is "jihadist-related." Yesterday, a Belgian arms dealer turned himself in after saying he gave the Charlie Hebdo attackers weapons in Brussels last year.
Some critics say Clint Eastwood's new film, American Sniper, is filled with nothing but hate and cold blood. Bradley Cooper, the widow of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, and Vice President Joe Biden don't think so. In fact, Asawin Suebsaeng reports Biden wept at the end of the movie.
The pontiff doesn't believe "Je suis Charlie," apparently. Barbie Latza Nadeau reports while Francis certainly did not endorse the murder of journalists, he suggested that the bitter reaction against the satirical weekly's caricatures (including some of him) was predictable.
