How to Recover From an Email Disaster

By Brian Moylan

How to Recover From an Email Disaster

How to Recover From an Email DisasterWe've all done it before: hit the wrong button or pressed "send" too early and dispatched an email with disastrous results. Here are the most common gaffes and what to do the next time your electronic correspondence lands you in the doghouse.

The Flubbed Forward

Everyone gets those missives that are either so outrageously bad or personal that they must be shared with your close personal friends. However, instead of forwarding, you actually replied to the sender of the message. Now they know you think they're horrible or that you're sharing their news with the rest of the world. Even if you didn't say anything bad to them, you end up looking like a traitor.
Solution: Send an immediate reply, explain the situation, and get ready for the fallout. You made a mighty blunder and you have to take the scolding that's coming to you. Also, apologize and promise it will never happen again, but know that whoever you did this to will never trust you—ever!

Switched Contact

Thanks to address books and contact lists that are smarter than most college students, no one needs to know anyone's email address, because your email program fills it in automatically. You type out an email and put "Brian" in the "To" field and let the auto-fill do its trick. You think you're sending an email to trusted nightly news anchor Brian Williams, but instead you click on the wrong name and it goes to vicious gossip blogger "Brian Moylan" who then airs your dirty secrets for the whole world. Yikes!
Solution: This is really the most innocuous mistake. Depending on what was in the email, there are a few different scenarios. If it was something innocent or boring, the recipient will just be confused and figure out it wasn't for him. A simple "Oops! Man, I hate Gmail. That was meant for Brian Williams. Please disregard," is more than enough. However, if you sent "Can't wait until our romantic dinner tonight!" to your wife when it was intended for your mistress, there's only one way out: lie!

The Drunk Email

The slightly more literary cousin to the drunk dial, this is what happens when you drink a bottle of wine at dinner and then decide it's a good idea to check your correspondence before passing out. When you wake up on the couch covered in drool and still wearing the same clothes as the night before, you don't know what you sent to whom, and just what you said. You might have told off your boss, pissed off a friend, or admitted to that cute boy in accounting that you want to do very nasty things to him in the copy room.
Solution: Log into your email account immediately and see what you did. Then send follow up emails. It should say, "Sorry, I was drunk last night and shouldn't have been emailing. Oops!" Everyone's been there, so as long as you didn't go full Galliano, most people will have a chuckle at your expense and carry on.

The Sent Draft

You send an email before it's finished. Or, even worse, you type something out in anger and think better of it, but end up hitting "Send" when you didn't mean to. Your mother always told you to get that temper under control.
Solution: If you just sent something incomplete, who cares. Just say "Sorry, here's the rest of the email." No big whoop. However, if it's a nasty little letter, the best thing to do is not say anything at all and pretend like you meant to send it. Sometimes it's good to get your feelings out and if you really feel that way it's better not to hide it and let resentment build. Maybe sending something a little harsh will get good results. It could also get you fired, one or the other.

The Accidental Reply All

You know when you're on a big email chain and someone says something so stupid that you want to reply to one coworker on the thread and be like "Damn, Sally is such a fucking idiot," but instead of responding to your work confidant, you send it to everyone, including Sally. This is a common accident, since "Reply" and "Reply All" are usually right next to each other and viciously look so much alike.
Solution: If this happened personally or professionally, you need to find a new job. If it happened professionally, everyone in the office (except your bestie) will hate you and try to not work with you. You're pretty much screwed. If you were talking trash about your boss on the thread, might as well pack up your desk right now. And if you did this to a friend, you'll need a new job because its time to relocate and find a new group of friends, because you just alienated everyone on that list (except your bestie). Good job!

RADICALIZATION
2. King: 'Rage and Hysteria' Unneeded

This feels a bit like holding a meeting about a meeting. Rep. Peter
King's panel on homegrown terrorism opened with a debate over how best
to frame the investigation. King defended the hearing on the
radicalization of Muslim Americans, dismissing what he called
unwarranted "rage and hysteria." On the other side, the top Democrat on
the committee, Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, said the hearings
themselves would radicalize potential terrorists. "I cannot help but
wonder how propaganda about this hearing's focus on the American Muslim
Community will be used by those who seek to inspire a new generation of
suicide bombers," Thompson said. The rest of the panel consisted largely
of anecdotes and accounts from relatives of people who were inspired to
commit acts of terrorism, including one by Melvin Bledsoe, whose son,
Carlos, is charged with killing an Army private at a recruiting station
in Arkansas.

Kiva.org: Helping Poor People Good Naturedly | Socyberty

Kiva helps people change their lives but providing them opportunity to obtain money they could use to make a decent living.

I have always seen kiva.org placed by Google as their public service ads but i never did pay attention to it. Yesterday my friend encountered the ads on her site and got curious so she asked me if i know what kind of site it does, not knowing what to say we just decided to click the ads and open the site. To our surprise kiva.org is a good page, it is some sort of a lending organization designed to help people especially poor ones to obtain a loan that they can be use to make a decent living.
I got really interested on the site and so i browse it more thoroughly trying to learn more about it and guess what i have found? Kiva.org is everywhere across the globe and they help people from different part of the universe.

HOMELAND SECURITY
1. How Today's Muslim Hearings Help the Terrorists

Rep. Peter King's hearings today on homegrown Muslim terrorists may not
make him a McCarthy or a bigot, but the anxiety he's creating within the
Muslim-American community will reduce future cooperation with law
enforcement - and could help al Qaeda's recruitment, argues Jonathan
Alter. Will King be able to guilt-trip, shame, or otherwise compel
American Muslims to communicate more with authorities? It's hard to see
how.

LABOR
2. Wisc. Senate Passes Union-Busting Bill

Turns out the Democrats were never needed there in the first place:
Wisconsin Senate Republicans voted to strip state workers of their
collective bargaining rights on Wednesday. The Democratic senators'
presence was not required after the GOP separated the measure from a
spending package so that it no longer required a quorum. The final vote
was 18-1, with Republican Dale Schultz casting the only vote against the
bill. The move could come back to bite Republicans: Polling showed
citizens of Wisconsin, by a two-to-one majority, were expecting a
compromise.

WORLD LEADERS
3. Dalai Lama Retires from Politics

The Dalai Lama announced Thursday his retirement from public life. He
asked the Tibetan parliament in exile to relieve him of his "formal
authority" as head of the Tibetan government. "As early as the 1960s, I
have repeatedly stressed that Tibetans need a leader, elected freely by
the Tibetan people, to whom I can devolve power," he said in a speech.
"Now, we have clearly reached the time to put this into effect." The
Dalai Lama may also take what the Guardian calls "the unprecedented step
of seeking his own reincarnation" to avoid a succession crisis when he
dies. In 1995, the Dalai Lama named a young Tibetan boy as the next
incarnation, but the Chinese government rejected him and he has not been
seen since.

RUTHLESS
4. BBC Journalists Tortured in Libya

Three BBC journalists reported Wednesday they were captured and beaten
for 21 hours by Col. Muammar Gaddafi's forces in Libya, and they said
they saw evidence of worse torture from other victims. The journalists
said they were beaten with fists and rifles, hooded and subjected to
mock executions as they were trying to reach the rebel stronghold of
Zawiyah. Their account gives credence to the rebels and the refugees
attempting to flee who claim that Gaddafi's security forces have
routinely tortured those captured, which the United Nations is
investigating. All three journalists were among the ranks that Gaddafi
had invited to Tripoli, though many have been unable to reach Zawiyah.
Meanwhile, intense fighting continued in Ras Lanuf, a strategic oil
refinery town occupied by the rebels, and Zawiyah, with missiles and
grenades pummeling the area.

added $20.5 billion to his fortune, bringing his net worth to $74
billion. That's $18 billion more than the number-two person on the list,
Bill Gates, who is worth $56 billion. Warren Buffett is third on the
list, while the Koch Brothers, famous for their support of the Tea
Party, are ranked eighteen.
