Read This, Skip That ....

ALPHA VS. BETA
Julien Blanc and his employers were underground successes in the pickup artist community—until one of their videos set off a firestorm. Are these men misogynists or just plain lonely? Brandy Zadrozny investigates.
PLAYING DEFENSE

Janay Rice said her husband Ray had never assaulted her prior to knocking her unconscious in an Atlantic City casino elevator in February. Mrs. Rice spoke on the Today show Monday, her second public appearance since videos surfaced of the attack by the then-Baltimore Ravens running back. Last week, Ray Rice was reinstated by the NFL, but he hasn't been picked up by any team. Matt Lauer asked Janay if Ray ever attacked her in the past. "There's no way," she said. "He knows what he would have to deal with, you know, if this was something. You know, I'm not going to sit there in silence and let something happen to me—and God forbid, in front of my child, just like, let it happen? There's no way." She also said she refuses to watch the second elevator video. "I'm not going to let the public bring me back there," she said.

FERGUSON'S LEGACY
President Obama has proposed $75 million in federal matching funds for police body cameras in the wake of Michael Brown's death at the hands of Officer Darren Wilson. The money would be spent over three years to provide body cameras for some 50,000 police officers. The funds would be part of a larger $263 million initiative to better educate local law enforcement and get the Department of Justice more involved in police training. According to early reports, under the proposal, local civilian authorization will be required for police to request controlled equipment, which will include guns and armored vehicles.
REJECT

One in three ticket holders for Bill Cosby's performance next week at the Tarrytown Music Hall in upstate New York have asked for a refund. The December 6 show had sold out weeks before Cosby was set to perform, but the recent spate of old and new sexual assault allegations led the theater to issue a refund option. Since refunds started being offered on Friday, 267 seats available became available for the 4 p.m. show and 394 became available for the 7:30 p.m. show. The theater seats 843.

SOUNDS UGLY
A man wrote on Facebook that he wanted to leave his ex-wife's body 'soaked in blood' and wished to 'slit the throat' of an FBI agent. Today the Supreme Court heard Anthony Elonis's arguments that what he wrote wasn't really a threat but artistic expression. Geoffrey R. Stone writes it all depends on the speaker's intent.
