Ferguson cops seemed ready to meet angry citizens halfway this morning when they released the name of the officer accused of shooting unarmed teen Michael Brown. But they also named Brown as a suspect in a petty robbery—which could unravel the Missouri suburb's uneasy peace.

What He Faced

CRISIS IN UKRAINE

Several leaders of the rebellion are out, possibly because of the downing of MH17. This could be a prelude to peace talks—or intensified fighting. Jamie Dettmer reports from Donetsk, the besieged ghost city where the Ukrainian army is slowly, uncertainly, but ineluctably closing in.

PATIENCE

It will take at least six months to get the Ebola epidemic under control in West Africa, the head of Doctors Without Borders said Friday. She also added that "If we don't stabilize Liberia, we will never stabilize the region."

JUSTICE?

A lawyer for the family of the unarmed black man who was shot and killed by Los Angeles police on Monday night says the family plans to sue for wrongful death. The lawyer, Steven A. Lerman, also represented Rodney King, who was beaten by the LAPD in the 1990s. The family of Ezell Ford says he was mentally ill. The police claim Ford tackled an officer and went for his gun. The officer's partner then shot Ford, while the first officer also shot Ford with a backup weapon. "They could have used a Taser, they could have wrestled him to the ground, they did not have to shoot right away," the lawyer said. Witnesses say they did not see Ford put up a struggle.
